Augmented Reality in Your Pocket!

Trimble Connect is a cloud-based collaboration platform that has now surpassed 10 million users to date and has hosted more than 80,000 design and construction projects. Trimble Connect makes it possible for architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals to collaborate and work together from a single source of truth from anywhere in the world, enabling them to; share, review, coordinate, and comment on data-rich constructible models, schedules, and critical project information in real-time – reducing costly miscommunication and improving coordination to keep projects on time and on budget.

Leading on from the success of Trimble Connect and to maximise its use, Trimble has recently introduced a new solution that places augmented reality (AR) at everyone’s fingertips, the new Trimble® Connect® AR app runs on most Android and iOS tablets and smartphones released from 2019 onwards.

Connect AR is a visualisation tool that gives building construction workers greater accessibility to 3D models in the field so they can leverage field-oriented workflows, constructible 3D models, and mixed reality to transform daily work such as assembly and inspections.

It makes augmented reality accessible to more people on the job site. Project managers, engineers, and contractors can visualise 3D BIM models at a 1:1 scale in the real world allowing for more efficient pre-construction coordination, construction checking and clash detection, and post construction QA/QC. All common BIM formats are supported including: Navisworks, Revit, IFC, SketchUp, DWG, TRB and Tekla.

The software is easy to use and intuitive. QR codes are placed virtually in the model via Trimble Connect, in the real world the same QR code is placed in the same location, the user scans the QR code with their smart device in the Trimble Connect AR app and the model is launched at a 1:1 scale. Multiple QR codes can be stationed around the jobsite to combat drift. Within the app there are the following features:

  • Visualisation tools: transparency toggling, cross-section, and fishbowl tools
  • Capture Todo’s: Capture and share the augmented reality view and share identified issues with other stakeholders
  • Measurement: Measure and record progress and as-built information, including positions, lengths, and areas
  • Offline Support: Work offline then sync your data to Trimble Connect

The Trimble Connect AR app is a powerful, intuitive, and affordable tool to have in the toolbelt, why not try it today. It will change the way you work!
