BuildingPoint Australia are thrilled to share the success of the inaugural Trimble Dimensions Australia User Conference, held on 27-28 August in Brisbane. With the theme “Feel the power of connection,” the event focused on working smarter to transform businesses through the power of connected construction solutions.
More than 700 construction, engineering, and geospatial professionals from across the Asia Pacific joined the two-day event, which featured 73 expert-led sessions eligible for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points for NSW and Victorian Surveyors. Covering topics such as hardware and software optimisation, AI advancements, machine control, surveying, and mapping, the program gave attendees practical strategies to improve productivity and profitability in their businesses.
Innovation, Inspiration, and Connection
The conference opened with an inspiring keynote address by Paralympic champion and Australian Army veteran, Curtis McGrath. His story of resilience and determination set the tone for an event focused on innovation and progress.
Attendees had the opportunity to experience the forefront of Trimble’s connected construction technology through live demonstrations, workshops, and case studies. BuildingPoint showcased how these solutions can transform project delivery – improving safety, efficiency, and collaboration across contracting businesses. Industry experts also shared real-world insights into how contractors are leveraging Trimble technology, delivered locally by BuildingPoint, to achieve smarter project outcomes.
Live Construction Demonstrations
One of the event highlights was the offsite demonstration at Sirromet Winery in Queensland. Here, participants witnessed Trimble machine control in action – showcasing how earthmoving, milling, drilling, and piling operations can be completed with greater precision, efficiency, and sustainability. The expo also provided hands-on experiences with Trimble’s survey and mapping tools, tailored for land development and construction, alongside demonstrations of software applications that connect field and office teams for real-time decision making.
BuildingPoint Presentations: Leading the Conversation
A central highlight of Trimble Dimensions Australia was the range of BuildingPoint-led sessions that showcased how connected technology is shaping the industry. These presentations covered pressing themes such as sustainability, reality capture, stadium delivery, digital workflows, and the power of fully connected construction ecosystems.
Driving Sustainability in Construction
Aaron Cartridge and Peter Foldes explored how Trimble solutions are helping contractors reduce environmental impact while improving efficiency in their session The Greener Build: How Trimble Drives Sustainable Construction Outcomes. They demonstrated how precise reality capture, intelligent BIM workflows, and advanced field technology minimise waste, optimise materials, and cut carbon emissions. Attendees walked away with a clearer view of how digital constructability can deliver projects that are both profitable and environmentally responsible.
Unlocking the Power of Reality Capture
Kieran Dinuzzo and Liam Dixon took a deep dive into the rapidly evolving field of reality capture and augmented reality. Their session broke down the technologies behind 3D scanning and AR, showing how they give contractors greater clarity on site, support faster decision-making, and improve coordination between teams. By visualising design intent directly in the field, participants saw how these tools drive engagement and reduce costly errors.
Point Clouds in Tekla Structures
Andrius Reciunas presented Bridging the Gap: Leveraging Point Clouds and Trimble Connect in Tekla Projects, which addressed one of the industry’s persistent challenges: inaccurate site data. The session highlighted how integrating point clouds directly into Tekla Structures ensures models reflect real-world conditions, while Trimble Connect provides the collaborative layer needed to keep stakeholders aligned from design through delivery.
Stadium Delivery at Scale
In a session delivered by ARUP, From Optus to Allegiant: Delivering Stadiums at Pace and Scale for Brisbane 2032, Clayton Riddle and Joseph Thiang showcased how advanced digital engineering enabled the delivery of two of the world’s most ambitious stadium projects. At Optus Stadium in Perth, the use of Tekla Structures for model-based coordination ensured alignment across multiple disciplines and contractors, contributing to the project finishing ahead of schedule. In Las Vegas, Allegiant Stadium was delivered in just 40 months through database-driven workflows and real-time collaboration powered by Trimble technology. The session underscored how integrated tools such as Tekla and Trimble Connect reduce rework, accelerate schedules, and drive accountability in cost, schedule, and carbon performance—key lessons for delivering world-class venues in Brisbane 2032.
The Vista stream at Dimensions Australia offered attendees a deep dive into the latest product updates, practical tools, and productivity-enhancing features. The Vista Product Update & Roadmap session outlined key themes driving development, including cloud advancements, core financial enhancements, and new integrations supporting connected construction workflows. In Vista Work Centres and Inquiries, users discovered how to unlock greater efficiency through role-specific data views and streamlined navigation. Rounding out the stream, Tips and Tools to Maximise Your Use of Vista delivered actionable insights and time-saving techniques to help teams get more value from their daily operations.
Connected Workflows in Practice
Finally, Andrew Farley and Tom Malloy brought the theme of the conference—Feel the Power of Connection—to life with their session The Connected Buildings Workflow: Powered by Trimble, Delivered by BuildingPoint. Using tools such as Trimble X9, SketchUp, Tekla Structures, Trimble Connect, FieldLink, and SiteVision, they demonstrated how an integrated digital ecosystem supports every stage of a project, from initial measurement to as-built documentation. Delivered in the style of BuildingPoint’s popular Brew and Learn series, this session offered attendees practical insights into how connected workflows transform project delivery by improving accuracy, collaboration, and efficiency.
Unlocking Innovation and Workforce Potential
Key announcements included:
- Launch of B2W Estimate software – Now available in Australia and New Zealand through BuildingPoint, B2W Estimate enables contractors to prepare faster, more accurate bids with centralised cost data, templates, and advanced reporting. BuildingPoint provides full implementation, training, and technical support, ensuring local businesses can unlock its full potential.
